Care Story Library

Care Story Library

Care Story Library is a YouTube-style portal of patient care stories from across Scotland. Funded by the NHS National Services Scotland and the Scottish Government, the site aims to convey real-life experiences told first-hand by carers, service users and staff Scotland-wide. From elderly dementia patients to district nurses, Care Story Library gives a voice to those who may otherwise remain unheard.

The project brief was to transform the existing static site to a dynamic and interactive one which allows streaming and downloading of videos in Flash and Windows Media formats. There is an admin back-end for site administrators to upload new stories and an advanced search function for users to quickly find stories of interest.

The backend of the site is built in ASP.NET and C# and talks to a SQL Server 2005 database. The frontend of the site is written in XHTML and CSS and uses Javascript (AJAX) for validation, partial page updates and file upload progress indicators. Graphics were created using Photoshop and Illustrator CS3.

Please note the site is currently members-only as it is primarily and educational resource for NHS staff across Scotland although it is intended to be made publicly available following initial user feedback.
